GeneralAmlodipine is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Amlodipine is called a calcium channel blocker. Norvasc relaxes (widens) the blood vessels (veins and arteries), making it easier for the heart to pump and reducing its workload. |
General Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily with or without food or as directed by your doctor.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. |
General If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Norvasc and contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical treatment: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives), unusually fast or slow heartbeat, chest pain, severe dizziness or fainting, psychosis, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), or swelling of the legs or ankles. |
General Before taking Norvasc, tell your doctor if you have liver disease; or another disease of the heart or blood vessels such as sick sinus syndrome, aortic stenosis, heart failure, low blood pressure, or coronary artery disease. You may not be able to take Norvasc, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above. |
General 417 medications are known to interact with Norvasc. Includes aspirin, Aspirin Low Strength (aspirin), atenolol. |
