General Furosemide (generic Lasix) is used to heal high blood pressure or water retention (swelling) associated with congestive heart failure, liver disease, or kidney disease. Lasix can be used alone or in combination with other pills that lower high blood pressure |
General Take furosemide exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. To reduce nighttime urination, take furosemide early in the day unless otherwise directed by your doctor. General Commonly observed side effects are low blood pressure, and water and electrolyte depletion. Less common side effects include jaundice, ringing in ears (tinnitus), light sensitivity, rash, pancreatitis, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, anemia, and other blood disorders. |
General Patients allergic to sulfa may also be allergic to furosemide because of a similarity in the chemical structure of the medications. Furosemide should be avoided in kidney failure. |
General Furosemide has potential interactions with the following medications:Aminoglycoside antibiotics,Aspirin and other salicylates
Other diuretics (eg. Ethacrynic acid), Indomethacin, Lithium, Sucralfate |
General Furosemide should be stored at room temperature in a light resistant container. |
