GeneralTamoxifen (generic Nolvadex) is used to treat breast cancer in women or men. Tamoxifen may also be used to treat other kinds of cancer, as determined by your doctor. Tamoxifen also may be used to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer in women who have a high risk of developing breast cancer. |
GeneralThe usual dose is 20 mg of NOLVADEX each day. This is two 10 mg Tamoxifen tablets taken together or one 20 mg Nolvadex-D tablet taken once a day. Some people need to take 40 mg once a day. Your doctor will tell you if this is necessary. Swallow your NOLVADEX whole, with a full glass of water. |
GeneralTell your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following: unusual pain or pressure around your pelvis, in your bones or anywhere in your body excessive thirst swelling of the hands, ankles and feet any changes in your vision, pain and reddening around the tumour, lumps anywhere in the body, unusual tiredness, shortness of breath and dizziness when exercising, and looking pale , frequent infection, fever, severe chills, sore throat or mouth ulcers unexplained bruising, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark coloured urine. |
GeneralMenstruation is suppressed in a proportion of premenopausal women receiving Tamoxifen. Any women receiving or having previously received Tamoxifen, who report abnormal gynaecological symptoms, especially vaginal bleeding, should be promptly investigated. |
GeneralWhen Tamoxifen is used in combination with coumarin-type anticoagulants, a significant increase in anticoagulant effect may occur. Where such co-administration is initiated, careful monitoring is recommended.
When Tamoxifen is used along with cytotoxic agents, there is increased risk of thromboembolic events. As Tamoxifen is metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4, care is required when co-administering with drugs such as rifampicin, known to induce this enzyme. The relevance of this to clinical practice is not known. |
GeneralStore between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly closed, light-resistant container. Store away from moisture, heat, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Do not take tablets after the expiration date printed on the label. Keep Nolvadex out of the reach of children and away from pets. |
